Starting a blog is easy; the tough part is actually getting people to visit your blog! I’m sure that is something everyone who might be reading this is familiar with. Getting more people to follow, or even visit your blog is easily one of the most common problems I’ve come across. People have done it, yes, but it takes time, and can be a frustrating process, to say the least.
However it is do-able. Very do-able, in fact. I’ve done it for many clients and a few of my own websites as well. And I genuinely believe that if I can do it, so can you!
One of the keys to attracting more visitors on your blog is coming up with unique and great content. Yes, it’s that simple!
Look for examples in your own life. Why do you visit blog abc, or why did you subscribe to blog xyz? It is because of content almost every time!
Content – Quality over Quantity!
I firmly believe that it is the content on your blog or website that ultimately makes or breaks it.
First and foremost, try focusing all your efforts into creating great, quality content. Providing your reader or visitor with value is what will ultimately make him come back.
Quality content generally leaves a lasting impression on its viewer. So make sure you focus on that, instead of focusing your efforts on quantity. Having said that, make sure you set some time aside for updating your blog on a regular basis, which could be daily, bi-weekly, weekly or even fortnightly. If your blog looks outdated, chances are you won’t get a lot of return visitors.
Write a ‘killer article’ at least once a week, or once every fifteen days. Deliver maximum value to your reader with these articles. Brainstorm, research and spend some time on this. Try going the extra mile!
The posts on your blog should be interesting to read, and not just a boring wall of text or commentary. Use humor, or be controversial with your posts if you have to. Just make sure you don’t cross the line between controversy and offending your readers.
Tell a story, or a real-life incident. Use images or videos. But don’t overdo it.
Try coming up with an attention-grabbing headline. I cannot even remember the number of times I’ve been compelled to read an article just because its headline was interesting! The headline is usually the first thing your readers will read, therefore it is imperative that it be as interesting as possible.
Engage your Audience
Engaging your audience is extremely important. The best marketers out there know how to do this, they’ve mastered this art and that is why they’re making the big bucks.
Try asking questions, encouraging people to leave comments. Involve your audience in one way or the other, and promote debate. Give your opinion; it’s your blog after all! Your readers might tend to agree or differ with your opinion, make sure everyone is given a chance to have their say.
You could even create polls for this purpose.
Alternatively, you could try giving your readers some advice, give free tips, or write some thought provoking articles. Provoking emotion – happiness, anger, sympathy or even hatred – through the power of words, imagery or even videos is one of the most effective methods of engaging your audience.
